Wendell Folks RV-8 Project - Page 59.

July 16, 2007:  The Monday evening session found Wendell approaching the RED line cut with  the die grinder.  He is using my smaller grinder without the metal guard to allow him to see the cut line better.

Here is the first check of the entire plexiglass bubble on the fuselage.

The aft end of the canopy is seen here above the slider rail.  There is still much more fitting to go since this was the first cut.

The cut line between the canopy frame and the roll bar was marked for the cut to be done in the next work session.  This was the stopping point for the evening session.

July 17, 2007:  The Tuesday evening session reveals the windshield separated from the larger canopy section.  The spacers are in place to represent the gap between the plexiglass and the canopy frame that will result when the plexi is eventually glued in place.  You can see there is still extra plexiglass to be trimmed away along the bottom edges before the correct and final fit to the canopy frame.

The bubble is moved back and forth on the canopy frame to be sure of the best location.  When that is confirmed, addtional trim lines will marked for the next cut to be made to the plexiglass.

The baggage door installation is completed with the drilling of the holes to accept #8 flat-head screws through the UHMW blocks.  This is the block on the aft bulkead of the front baggage compartment.

Here is the wider view of the baggage door and the front block mounted on the inside of the firewall.  And that is all for the evening as we shut down a bit early tonight.  Wendell is having guests on Wednesday evening.  Thursday evening is the night to pack the Cessna 182 for the trip to Alaska that begins on Friday morning, July 20th.  I will take photos of the departure and hopefully, Wendell will be taking plenty of photos on the way to Alaska.  I hope to be able to create an Alaska travel story for Wendell in the "OTHER TRAVELS" section of this web site.  We will both be out of town next week, so don't look for any updates to these pages until July 30th or 31st.
