December 6, 2009: I have only seen black wing walk non-skid material.  I asked David where he found this gray color.  He replied that it is actually a clear vinyl material from Aircraft Spruce & Specialty.

Here is a sample of the wing walk still on the paper, but with enough of it clear of the paper to see it is typical "peel-and-stick" material.  The paper behind it is white and the strip that appears whiter is where it is not adhered to the backing paper.  The faint red tint you see in this photo is from the sunlight streaming through the colored parachute over the airplane to prevent bug droppings and bird droppings from getting on the airplane.

This RED warning label on the left flap looks like it is jumping off the surface.  It is painted on there using paint masks from the print shop.  Dave sprayed the letters through the mask, then removed the mask as the paint was drying.

Dave added this wooden wedge "trim tab" to the rudder before his last flight.  The ball was skidding to the left about half the width of the ball before he added this block.  He guessed at the size and it was very close.  He plans to cover the wedge with fiberglass cloth and paint over it soon.  I will take another photo when it is finished the next time I see David and his airplane.

Repeat Van's RV builder Mark Pickens stopped by and was admiring the new airplane.  The last time I saw Mark was at Sammie's Restaurant on the field at the Pell City, Alabama airport October 5, 2008.  Marty Mason and I were touring that day and stopped there for lunch.

I was taking a photo of the headrest behind the passenger seat while David was looking at a place where the canopy skirt had rubbed the clear coat on the upper aft skin of the fuselage.  Mark pointed out to David and started to take a closer look at it.

I moved around to the other side of the airplane to discover how the head rest is mounted.  These heavy, pre-shaped aluminum brackets came from Oregon Aero as part of the head rest kit.

Dave wasted no time adding more felt strips to the fiberglass canopy skirts.   He showed us double-sided duct tape which he used to attached the felt strips to the skirts.

This was a good visit with David today and I hope to catch up to him soon to see the finishing touches applied, like the rudder trim tab.
